Not just for millennials, avocado toast is filling, healthy, easy, and best of all, delicious! This recipe adds a kick of spicy flavor, but you can choose to turn up the heat or dial it back.
Mmmmmm... Is your mouth watering yet? Will I ruin it if I remind you how crazy healthy this is? Of course, you should alter the bread according to your needs - gluten-free for example. And, adjust the spice level to your liking - we like ours rather spicy.
My New Year's resolution is to eat 100 of these! Ya know, improve my health the tasty way. -Auggie D. (my son)
I would love a review from anyone who gives this a try. It is one of our family favorites (for three of the four of us anyway) and we truly hope you fall in love with the taste, ease, and nutritional benefits of our spin on avocado toast. Then, I can put a review from outside my family on this blog :)
The Best and Easiest Avocado Toast
Ingredients:
I am listing the brands/types of products that I use. Substitute wherever needed to bend this recipe to the ingredients you have on hand or prefer. Cheers!
Bread - I use Dave's Killer Bread Good Seed
Ripe Avocado
Olive Oil - I use Spicy Chili Garlic Oil to level up the heat just a notch (find the brand I order here)
Salt - I use coarse pink Himalayan salt
Crushed Red Pepper
Directions:
Are you ready for this...
Toast your bread to your desired crispness
While bread is toasting, cut the avocado in half and remove the mesocarp (that's a fancy word for the delicious part you eat) from one half of the fruit - half of an avocado usually covers two pieces of toast for us.
***My kids can make this on their own because we have, and honestly love, this tool.
I bought it at Crate and Barrel years ago, but now I see them everywhere. Here is one on Amazon.com that is just like ours. I like this particular one because it removes the pit safely.
If you purchase this tool from this link, it will not cost you any extra, but Amazon will pay me a few cents for sending you to the product on their site. Affiliates like this help me keep this blog going and I appreciate your support. If you don't buy it from this link, no worries, I still recommend it from any store.
When the bread is toasted, start by spreading the avocado on the slice(s). Again, this is to your liking. We like ours to be just a bit chunky amidst the mash - almost like we like our guacamole. I then use my knife to slice little diagonal lines across the avocado so that when I add my oil in the next step it settles into the grooves and doesn't run off the toast - see video insert below.
Next, drizzle olive oil (*Spicy Chili Garlic Oil* or any flavor you have or love) over the avocado mash and allow it to settle into your cut lines if you did that in the last step.
Now, sprinkle coarse salt (Pink Himalayan is my fave) and crushed red pepper across the slice of oily avocado toast.
***OPTIONAL*** I amp it up here and sprinkle roasted pepitas (pumpkin seeds) on top but no one else in my family does this extra step. If you are a pepita fan, give it a try with these roasted pepitas.
