Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, or Dinner. Pre-game power or post-workout recovery. This tasty, chocolatey, peanut buttery smoothie is great any time of day. It is kid-approved, even by my kiddo who isn't a peanut butter fan. Plus, there is a handful of spinach tossed in & hidden by the other sweet flavors. On busy lacrosse Saturdays, a smoothie is all I get into my little athlete between games and this one is power-packed to fuel his energy and fill his belly!

We stayed with friends one weekend and they made smoothies for everyone with the Arbonne plant-based chocolate protein. As someone who has never loved the chalky, powdery consistency of protein powder, I was blown away at how much I liked this one. Their protein powder dissolves easily and is digested easily (tested by my tender-tummy kiddo with Celiac's disease).

Mom, this one is even better than the smoothie store's chocolate smoothie! -Auggie D. (my son)

And, really you can use any chocolate protein powder you choose. I prefer plant-based, especially if my kids are slurping one of these treats. And, like I said, I really love the Arbonne vegan protein powder. (I do not sell their product nor do I represent anyone who sells Arbonne - I am just a true fan of this stuff).

Ingredients

You'll see me say this a bunch with recipes, but be creative here. Add in blueberries or strawberries. Use water instead of milk if you prefer an icier smoothie over a creamier one. Be inspired to change it up, but share you results if you find a gem!

  • ½ scoop of Arbonne (or whatever) chocolate protein powder

  • 1 heaping spoonful of peanut butter (this is not exact, it's more according to taste preference

  • 2 bananas, peeled and frozen ahead of time

  • ¼ cup - 1 cup of fresh spinach leaves (again, this is according to taste) - use less if you or your kiddo can't stand the sight of a green smoothie - use more if you or your kiddo likes the idea of drinking a Hulk or Grinch smoothie as the more spinach you add the greener it gets

  • ½ -1 cup almond milk - this changes for me every time so I have stopped measuring and just keep the milk container on the counter and add it as needed. I think the variation in how much liquid I need has something to do with how ripe the bananas are before I freeze them but I am totally guessing here.

  • chocolate syrup to drizzle for that necessary dramatic presentation

Directions

Let's not forget to put the lid on the blender BEFORE we push the button!

  1. Place all ingredients in the blender. Does it matter what order? Not really, but I habitually put the first 5 ingredients in the blender in the order I have them listed.

  2. Blend until all spinach is pureed

  3. *Optional* Add ice if you want a thicker/fluffier smoothie

  4. Drizzle your cup with chocolate syrup (especially fun if the cup is clear)

  5. Pour smoothie mixture into your chocolate-drizzled cup

  6. Enjoy!

I know this one sounds simple, but after too many of my own attempts to create elaborate smoothies, having this one in my back pocket for our family is a true gift! And I'll say it again, I swear by this protein powder!
